About me
Suraj Vanniarachchy is a forestry and environmental science specialist with more than 13 years’ experience in international carbon project development. He is currently Vice President for the Global Carbon team at Macquarie Bank. Born and educated in Sri Lanka, he began his career at the emergence of carbon trading and has since worked across the full carbon offset value chain, contributing to leading global climate advisory groups including Verra, Plan Vivo, Fair Carbon and the INBAR Task Force on Sustainable Bamboo Management.
Joining Macquarie in 2022, Suraj now plays a key role in assessing and de-risking nature based solutions (NBS) investments, drawing on extensive field experience in community led forestry and blue carbon projects. His work focuses on building credible, high impact carbon projects by connecting governments, communities and investors, and helping shape the responsible growth of the voluntary carbon market.
